FEAR FREE PETS
Updated: Mar 29, 2022
Fear Free Pets® was founded in 2016 by one of the United State’s most widely respected veterinarians, Dr. Marty Becker. Dr. Becker is referred to as “America’s Veterinarian”
because, throughout his career, he has worked tirelessly to advance the veterinary profession, advocate for rescue, and improve the care of companion animals in our country and abroad.
Fear Free Pets offers online education to veterinary professionals, pet professionals, animal welfare communities, and pet owners alike. Their courses are developed by some of the most renowned veterinary and pet industry experts in the world.
FEAR FREE REQUIREMENTS
To achieve Fear Free accreditation, pet care professionals, both veterinary and non-veterinary, undergo rigorous training and testing. They develop a wide range of skills that reduce the stress levels of dogs and cats during pet care, training, grooming, and veterinary visits. They practice positive-based handling techniques, learn tangible and intangible ways to alleviate fear and anxiety, and master techniques that create an overall more pleasant experience for pets, all in their respective fields.
FEAR FREE VETS & VET TECHS
Recognizing that, despite a veterinary practice’s conscientious care standards, pets don’t often enjoy visiting the veterinarian, Fear Free practices see improved outcomes for their patients and their veterinary team alike. Fear Free veterinary practices have been shown to improve patient care, reduce pain and discomfort, and create a more positive experience overall.
FEAR FREE TRAINERS
Designed to give cat and dog trainers the knowledge and tools required to implement Fear Free techniques with their clients’ pets during training and behavior modification, Fear Free Animal Trainers learn evidence-based best practices that improve long-term training results and pet parent satisfaction.
FEAR FREE GROOMERS
Similar to their experience going to the vet, many companion animals fear having their feet handled, hair cut, or coats washed and brushed at the groomer. Fear Free Groomers employ Fear Free concepts to ensure that the grooming experience is as enjoyable as possible for every pet, every time. Using these techniques, animals learn to relax and embrace their grooming sessions for improved health and wellbeing.
FEAR FREE PET SITTERS
Fear Free Certified Pet Sitters learn Fear Free concepts and insights into animal body language, dog walking, behavior and training basics, enrichment, home life, travel, and administering medications so that they can offer exceptional attention to pets in their care.
Pet Sitters have the unique opportunity to spend time with pets in their homes when their family is not present, which makes Fear Free training all the more important. In the Fear Free certification program specifically designed for pet sitters, we not only learn ways to improve the pet care visit experience but also how to help pet parents further enrich and enhance the lives of their beloved pets.
